Destroy the Whole Universe with this LEGO Atlas Detector

Imagine a tool powerful enough to tear apart the very same fabric of our Universe! A tool that can inspect inside the empty spaces of the atom and that can detect and explain the extra dimensions of our Universe. Well, here it is Atlas!

This model is a 1:50 scale version of the real ATLAS experiment, situated at CERN – the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, Switzerland. The ATLAS detector is searching for new discoveries in the head-on collisions of protons of extraordinarily high energy because the higher the energy you use to make the protons collide the smaller particles you can “see”.

The model is made of in total 9517 pieces, is roughly in scale to a minifig and has a size of about one meter in length and half a meter in diameter. A quarter sector of the Inner Detector and the calorimeters can be taken out to better illustrate the individual layers of the actual detector. A scaffolding and two scales help to further illustrate the size of this experiment and a legend allows to identify the individual parts.
