LEGO 7939 Cargo Train Review

So… when I built the LEGO 7938 Passenger Train and I felt so ripped off I decided to quit the Train stuff… but I love to so much that little trains running all around the house… so I did what any other man would have done: Order another Train Set :)

Here it is the review of the LEGO 7939 Cargo Train. And before you keep reading I just want to say that this is a really nice set, expensive but really nice. Now… yes, I can!.

Model background

Use the big crane to load and unload containers and cars from the train and container truck. Open the canopies on the engine to reveal the driver’s cabins on either end, and use the four-channel, seven-speed infrared remote control to transport the goods along the tracks around the LEGO City!

The set includes four minifigures – the train driver and three freight yard workers – as well as a full set of tracks: two switch tracks, eight straight tracks, 16 curved tracks, and 16 flexible tracks that equal the length of 4 straight tracks. For added fun, the big crane’s winch really works!

Model Box

Here is the unboxing of this set.

This model features a really big box but most of it is empty. It is so empty that I am right now storing in it the 7938, the 7939 and five sets of tracks on the same box and there is still room for more.

The back of the box show you a big LEGO City with lots of building and vehicles and the stars of the LEGO City Train Sets: The 7938 Passenger Train, 7939 Cargo Train and the 7937 Train Station. It you look carefully you will see the 7936 Crane to repair tracks.

It looks really lovely… but one has to wonder HOW much money does all of it cost… #expensive

Manuals

It has 6 instructions books, but they are quite light ( if you compare them to LEGO Technic stuff ) and easy to build.

Building experience

This 7939 Cargo Train is a pleasure to build. It is created fast and everything looks great. The train looks quite good but so it does the truck, the crane as well as the little cars.

The Minifigs

This set has four minifigs and as I happen to own a guy with red helmet and blue jeans I dropped it into the set :)

The guys with the train sign on the jacket are the ones that operates the switch tracks and the other one is the one that operate the crane ( or you can use as you wish ).

The train driver is the one with the blue hat. As I said other times, I really love the way the minifigs look.

Truck and Container

The set has a full truck with a red freight container.

It is very nice the way the container is “locked” into the truck.

The model has two different containers one full container and a half container. I really love it.

Train and cars

This is the train engine.

I love the way it looks. And you can open the front and back part of the train to place the train driver there.

This is the freight train car with the full container.

This is a train car with two cars in it. The cars look just ok. They are not really the best one you will see… come on LEGO, you can do much better.

And this is the liquid container train car. It looks quite good.

Crane

The crane uses two big green parts that I think are exclusive to this set. It operates over a smooth surface and can move back and forward.

The model is a bit simplistic but it does the work and looks decent enough.

Here is the set working with some of the tracks I got from the 7938 Passenger train.

So this is my review of the LEGO 7939 Cargo Train. And I have to remark that I am quite happy with this set after my disappointment with the 7938 Passenger Train.
